Juicy, sloppy and packed with mouthful of happiness on every bite. I mean who doesn’t love a juicy pulled pork that just oozes out of the bread and trickles down the side of your mouth with every bite.
Super easy to make, wouldn’t call it healthier than a fried chicken patty but definitely tastier, and a winner dish for any social gathering. What more to say, just try it for yourself.
The Building Blocks:
- 1/2 kg boneless pork chunks (preferably less fat cuts like shoulder or belly)
- 10 garlic cloves (chopped)
- 1 whole onion (roughly sliced)
- 2 cups water
- 2 tbsp refined oil
- Barbecue Sauce (to be used once pork is cooked)
Dry Powder ingredients:
- 2-3 dry red chillies
- 12-15 whole black pepper corns (kali mirch)
- 4 cloves (laung)
- 2 inch cinnamon stick (dal chini)
- 1 whole star aniseed
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
Burger assembling ingredients:
- 2 red tomatoes (sliced)
- 2 onions (sliced)
- 1 to 2 cucumbers (sliced)
- 1/2 cup fresh lettuce leaves (chopped)
- picked jalapenos (as per spice level)
- 2 tbsp Mayonnaise (optional)
- Fried Egg (optional)
Putting it all together:
Pulled Pork:
- Wash and clean the pork. Keep aside.
- Create a powder of the ‘Dry Powder ingredients’. Sprinkle this powder over the pork pieces and coat all pieces evenly.
- Heat a pan and add refined oil to it. Once oil is hot, drop in the now marinated pork pieces to this pan. Cook initially on high flame for 5 mins, continuously stirring the pork pieces and turning them over to prevent them from burning.
- Reduce the flame, add the chopped garlic and let it cook on medium to low flame for another 5 mins.
- Now transfer the contents to either a pressure cooker or crock pot. I have used a pressure cooker for this recipe.
- Add the sauteed pork to the pressure cooker and add the chopped onions. Add 2 cups of water and mix well.
- Cover the cooker with the lid and let it pressure cook on high flame first till it gives one whistle (around 5 mins) and then reduce to low flame for 45 to 60 minutes.
- Once cook time is complete, let the cooker release pressure by itself. Then carefully remove and transfer the delicate pork pieces to a bowl.
- Using 2 forks slowly start to shred the pork pieces in the bowl.
- Add the barbecue sauce to the shredded pork and mix it well.
- Now pulled pork is ready for use.
- Assemble the Burger buns (I personally prefer to lightly toast the buns over a hot pan). Add a layer of mayonnaise if you desire. Add the sliced fresh ingredients of your choice. Add a generous helping of fatty, juicy pulled pork. Top up with a fried egg. Cover with other bun half and enjoy the juicy, sloppy pulled pork burger. Make sure you keep tissues handy 😉
